Welcome to the games and competitions of Special Olympics Iowa. Since 1968, we have been providing quality games and competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The growth of our programs has been tremendous and today we serve nearly 11,000 athletes and their Unified Sports Partners in each of Iowa’s 99 counties.
Special Olympics Iowa offers games and competition in 23 Olympic-type sports including: alpine skiing, aquatics, athletics (track & field), basketball, bocce, bowling, cheerleading, cycling, developmental sports, equestrian competition, figure skating, golf, gymnastics, Nordic skiing, powerlifting, roller skating, snowshoeing, soccer, softball, speed skating, tennis and volleyball.
These events are offered throughout the year on a state and regional level. To join us at an upcoming event, please click here to view our schedule of events. To view more details about any event, click "More" in the Upcoming Events box in the upper right-hand corner of the page.
Our staff is committed to providing a safe and equitable environment for our athletes to enjoy the thrill of competition, experience joy, and share their achievements. Our games are made possible by the generous assistance of more than 15,000 volunteers every year.
Special Olympics Iowa invites you to become involved in our programs by becoming a spectator, volunteer or sponsor. Please contact Pam Wagner at (515-986-5520) for more information. On behalf of our athletes and their families, thank you for your support.
