Special Olympics officials from Iowa and Illinois invite members of the public to be courageous in the face of obstacles – just like Special Olympics athletes – and step Over the Edge for a great cause. More thrill seekers are needed to rappel off the 11-story Hotel Blackhawk in downtown Davenport on October 31 to help make the inaugural Over the Edge Quad Cities event a success.
The thrill of a lifetime is in store for participants, who are each asked to raise a minimum of $750 to support the thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities who train and compete through Special Olympics Iowa and Special Olympics Illinois. The festivities will take place throughout the day, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on October 31, in front of Hotel Blackhawk. In the spirit of Halloween, rappellers are encouraged to come in costume.
To register or for more information about Over the Edge Quad Cities participation and sponsorship, call 515-986-5520 or visit www.soiowa.org in Iowa, or call 309-734-5903 or visit www.soill.org in Illinois. Registration will also be done onsite on October 31, if slots are still available.
Those who raise $1,000 or more will be entered into a drawing for a $1,500 voucher to use toward any Allegiant Airlines vacation package, compliments of Allegiant and Quad City International Airport.
The event is supported by the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics. Sponsors for Over the Edge Quad Cities include Hotel Blackhawk, City of Davenport, Quad-City Times, KWQC-TV6 and 101.3 KISS-FM.
Special Olympics Iowa (www.soiowa.org) and Special Olympics Illinois ( www.soill.org) help empower children and adults with intellectual disabilities while offering year-round sports training and competition. The Law Enforcement Torch Run, made up of officers from every branch of law enforcement, raises awareness and funds year-round to support Special Olympics programs, including those in Illinois and Iowa.
