Special Olympics Iowa is hosting the 14th annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge in Dubuque, one of 13 locations in the state of Iowa to hold this event annually. Currently, Ames, Davenport, Des Moines, Dubuque, Iowa City, Council Bluffs, Cedar Falls/Waterloo, Indianola, Cedar Rapids, Fort Dodge, Northwest Iowa, Southeast Iowa and Sioux City each hold their own Polar Plunge. Participants will jump into the Mississippi in groups of 10 or more. Participants can either recruit a team or be placed on a team the day of the Plunge.
When a “plunger” raises a minimum of $75 in pledges they receive an official long-sleeve polar bear T-shirt and lunch. The more money a plunger raises, the more prizes they receive. Special prizes will be given to the Plunger who raises the most money, the team with the best costume and the Plunger with the best costume. Sponsors for the Dubuque Polar Plunge include: Radio Dubuque, Hy-Vee, Kwik Star, Texas Roadhouse, and the Dubuque Racing Association and Mystique Casino.
Too chicken to take the plunge? No problem! Register as a chicken and raise pledges to receive your chicken T-shirt and incentives, and then watch the plunge! Prizes will also be awarded to the chicken that raises the most money.
