Special Olympics Iowa Flag Football is Oct. 13 in Cedar Rapids

Special Olympics Iowa (SOIA) will host the second annual Flag Football competition on Saturday, October 13 at Ellis Park, 2200 Ellis Blvd. NW. The tournament includes 13 teams from across Iowa.

Flag Football is a 5v5 non-contact sport played by both males and females athletes. The preliminary competition begins at 10 a.m. and is followed by the first round of play at 11:45 a.m. A second round of play begins at 12:45 p.m.

“We had such a great response to this sport last year,” said SOIA Director of Sports Competition Rhonda Schwarzkopf. “Special Olympics Iowa is thrilled to offer Flag Football to our athletes again this year.”

Special Olympics Iowa offers 23 Olympic-type sports which provide meaningful training and competition opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities, including age-appropriate activities for athletes of all abilities. Special Olympics Iowa currently serves nearly 11,000 athletes and Unified Sports Partners in all 99 counties of the state.
