Who: 200 golfers total, 100 Special Olympics Iowa athletes partnering with 100 athletes without intellectual disabilities.
The sponsors include: Principal Financial Group and the Muscatine Community Y.
What: This nine-hole alternate shot Unified Golf tournament is a part of the Special Olympics Iowa Unified Sports
program which provides the opportunity for Special Olympics athletes and their Unified Sports Partners to develop a
better understanding and respect for one another's abilities and limitations.
When: Wed., Sept. 12. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with the first tee time at 7:30 a.m. and the last one is 12:20 p.m.
Where: Municipal Golf Course, 1820 N. Highway 38, Muscatine
“Unified Sports allow athletes to improve their physical fitness, sharpen their skills, and challenge the competition while
having fun at the same time,” said SOIA Director of Athlete Initiatives, Kathy Irving.
Irving said the first Unified Golf Tournament was held in Granger 17 years ago. Currently Akron, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids,
Davenport, Granger, Iowa City, Marshalltown and Muscatine each hold their own tournament.
